Mstislav Rostropovich intends to celebrate his 80th birthday due on March 27, 2007, in Russia
World famous maestro Mstislav Rostropovich intends to celebrate his 80th birthday due on March 27, 2007, in Russia, the maestro told Tass on Wednesday. Rostropovich has been staying in the city of Voronezh, where his father and grandfather lived. Despite a tough concert schedule for the following year Rostropovich intends to visit Moscow to celebrate his jubilee, and that is "absolutely certain," Rostropovich stressed. Rostropovich received a letter from Russian President Vladimir Putin who invited the maestro to come to Russia to celebrate the jubilee. "I cannot but respond to this request," Rostropovich said. Mstislav Rostropovich has been in Voronezh for three days. On Monday, he unveiled a plaque to Russia’s outstanding composer Dmitry Shostakovich. The plaque was established on a building, where Shostakovich gave a concert in December 1957. Rostropovich Voronezh itinerary includes meetings with intelligentsia, students of Voronezh State University, visit of the regional archive, which contains documents about the life of his ancestors who lived in Voronezh and participation in a presentation ceremony of a book about the life of the Rostropoviches family in Russia.
