Rescuers have started a search operation for a Russian fishing vessel with six people on board that went missing Tuesday night on the Baltic Sea
Rescuers have started a search operation for a Russian fishing vessel with six people on board that went missing Tuesday night on the Baltic Sea, the Russian emergencies ministry said Wednesday. A spokesman for the ministry's department in the Kaliningrad Region, a Russian exclave on the Baltic, said that on Tuesday night the owner of the fishing vessel informed the department that the vessel had not arrived at the region's Svetly port at the scheduled time. The St. Petersburg-registered vessel was last heard from on Monday night. "We have grounds to believe that the fishing vessel is in distress. Poor weather conditions are complicating the search operation," he said. Two helicopters are involved in the search operation, but the vessel has not been located yet, the spokesman said.
