All Catholic temples in Russia performed Christmas masses on Sunday night
All Catholic temples in Russia performed Christmas masses on Sunday night. The head of Russian Catholics, Archbishop Tadeus Kondrusiewicz, delivers the overnight service at the Catholic Cathedral in the Malaya Gruzinskaya Street of Moscow. The parish consists mostly of members of the Diplomatic Corps as well as of Catholics from Poland, Germany, Spain and other countries. According to the data of the Justice Ministry, 251 Catholic communities and organizations were registered in Russia as of December 2006. This country had 150 Catholic parishes and 500,000 believers before the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution. Anglicans, a part of Methodists, Baptists, Pentecostals and some Orthodox churches celebrate Christmas according to the Gregorian calendar, along with Catholics. Russian, Serb, Jerusalem, and Georgian Orthodox churches will celebrate Christmas on January 7 according to the Julian calendar.
