Fifty people fell ill with hemorrhagic fever with kidney involvement in the Voronezh region in central Russia
The press service of the regional Health Department told ITAR-TASS on Wednesday that the disease was registered in the region’s five areas and in Voronezh. The outbreak of hemorrhagic fever was preceded by an increase in the population of rodents that proved tenfold larger as compared to previous years. This is connected with an anomalously warm weather in the region this winter. Outbreaks of hemorrhagic fever, a disease causing bleedings, in a kidney-affecting form are not very rare in the Voronezh region where an epidemic was registered in the 1960s and another five years ago, when 50 people contracted the disease.
