The underground railway service and ground public transport vehicles are examined by specialists with sniffer dogs to detect explosive substances, metro trains and stations are patrolled by additional police squads. Buses, trolleybuses and trams are thoroughly examined at terminals. All drivers of the Russian capital’s public transport vehicles have been instructed how to behave in emergency situations. Moreover, Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov has issued an order to reinforce security of the city’s life support facilities. Water intakes of the Mosvodokanal water utility enterprise are being patrolled by the enterprise personnel and police officers, guarding of energy networks, substations and the city gas supply service has been reinforced. The railway and airports of Moscow are also working in an enhanced security regime. Besides, efforts to protect schools, kindergartens, culture and healthcare institutions have been stepped up. “All these security measures will be maintained until further orders,” the Moscow administration officials told Itar-Tass.
