Mikhail Zurabov said his family was planning to adopt a second child
Russian Health and Social Development Minister Mikhail Zurabov said his family was planning to adopt a second child. “Our family is potentially ready to adopt another child, most likely, a girl,” he said in an interview published by the Rossiyaksya Gazeta daily on Friday. In July 2006 Zurabov, who has a 12-year old son, Fedor, and a 23-year old daughter, Nastya, said he and his wife adopted a two-year old boy, Anton. The minister said adoption is a personal affair and he was not going to call on people to follow suit. However he believes it possible to eliminate orphanages in Russia in 5-6 years, if adoption is stimulated. The ministry drafted a package of proposals last year that will help Russians adopt children, Zurabov said. At present Russia has over 730 thousand orphans and abandoned children.
