Veterinarians will vaccinate against bird flu 40,000 poultry at private households in the northwestern Arkhangelsk region when the weather gets warmer, a source at the agriculture department of the regional administration told Itar-Tass. Currently air temperatures are 30 degrees below freezing. Over 55,000 doses of flu vaccines have remained in the local veterinary services' reserves since last year. This amount will be enough for the first vaccination in February-March, the chief regional veterinarian, Ivan Lochekhin, said. In March-April poultry will be vaccinated for the second time with a new batch of vaccines before the spring migration of wild fowl due April 26 – June 10. In 2006 all blood tests of birds for the H5N1 virus proved negative, Lochekhin said.
