Sverdlovsk Region police have confiscated one million forged roubles from a passenger of a passenger train following en route Moscow-Barnaul, the press service of the regional transport police department told Itar-Tass on Thursday. The 25-year-old man tried to smuggle forged currency in two plastic packages containing ten bundles of 1,000-rouble banknotes. He got forged money in Moscow to hand them over to his associate in the Urals, who was also detained. Experts say forged currency was produced on an ink-jet printer. Criminal proceedings against the two detainees have been instituted. This is the largest consignment of forged currency seized of late. In 2006, police seized 368,000 forged roubles. A total of 3,000 criminal cases on charges of smuggling forged currency were opened in the Sverdlovsk Region. Fifty detainees were brought to criminal responsibility. Some three million forged roubles were seized from circulation.
