Moscow is seriously worried about the deployment of U.S. missile defense system in Europe
Moscow is seriously worried about the deployment of U.S. missile defense system in Europe, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated on Tuesday. "The crisis condition of the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe and NATO expansion, including the alliance's approaching Russian borders, also raise concerns," Lavrov said. "What is happening is not a new variant of the "Cold War," he underlined, "Russia will approach toward the solution of these problems in a balanced way, adequately, without letting itself be involved in conflicts." "Our course will be based on pragmatism, a multi-vector principle and firm defense of national interests," the diplomat said. The only legal mechanism for "using force is the U.N.Charter," he went on to say. "The time for acting unilaterally has passed. As practice shows, everybody pays the bill for unilateral actions by one side," Lavrov said, citing the Iraqi situation as an example. "A new Russia has become a significant factor of changes in the world; which turned out to be an unpleasant surprise to some. We'll be waiting for everybody to get used to the new reality. We're ready to cooperate on the basis of taking into account mutual interests," he said.
