Policeman and his wife were killed and another man badly wounded in an armed attack on a car in a south Russian republic bordering Chechnya Friday morning
A policeman and his wife were killed and another man badly wounded in an armed attack on a car in a south Russian republic bordering Chechnya Friday morning, police said. "Unknown assailants opened fire at a Lada car carrying a police officer, Col. Lieutenant Nikamil Belokiyev, his wife and another passenger," said Nazir Yevloyev of the Interior Ministry of Ingushetia, one of Russia's North Caucasus republics. Being a neighbor of Chechnya, Ingushetia and other southern Russian territories still suffer from a spillover of violence in the troubled republic, which remains disrupted by sporadic bombings and clashes between gunmen and federal troops, even though the active phase of the North Caucasus antiterrorism campaign officially ended in 2001.
