Powerful cyclone that has arrived in Russia’s Far Easter Khabarovsk region after hitting the Primorsky Territory, is gaining momentum
A powerful cyclone that has arrived in Russia’s Far Easter Khabarovsk region after hitting the Primorsky Territory, is gaining momentum. Sea and air communications are badly disrupted because of the cyclone, sources from the Far Eastern meteorological service told Tass on Monday. Gusts of wind reach 23 meters per second in the east of the region, and 28 meters per second on the seacoast. Snowdrifts and ice-crusted roads have paralysed commuter buses on the Khabarovsk-Vladivostok and Khabarovsk- Komsomolsk-on-Amur routes. The airport of Khabarovsk is operating, but several planes have already been diverted to other airports. Flights to Vladivostok, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and other Far Eastern cities have been suspended till Tuesday morning. Sea ferries operating on the Vanino-Kholmsk route wait in safe bays till the storm is over. Meanwhile, meteorologists forecast that “snowfalls and gale-force winds will persist for at least another 24 hours”.
