The latest bomb attack against Russians in Algeria demonstrated that al Qaeda is continuing the war against Russia
The latest bomb attack against Russians in Algeria demonstrated that al Qaeda is continuing the war against Russia, a senior Russian parliamentarian said Tuesday. One Russian was killed and two wounded when a roadside bomb went off March 3, 130 kilometers from the Algerian capital as gas pipeline construction workers were returning by bus to their base camp. Three Algerians were also killed and two Ukrainian nationals wounded. Responsibility for the attack was claimed by al Qaeda's Maghreb wing, which said the attack was an act of retribution to those Russians waging war against Islam in Chechnya. "The terrorist attack in Algeria is yet another reminder to world leaders that enemies must be sought where they are based, and not among civilized countries," said Mikhail Margelov, chairman of the International Affairs Committee in the upper house of the Russian parliament. He said Russia has never fought against Islam or its followers.
