The Russian-Thai agreement on simplified visa rules will come into force on March 23
The Russian-Thai agreement on simplified visa rules will come into force on March 23, an officer of the Thai Embassy in Moscow told Itar-Tass on Wednesday. “From now on Russian citizens should have only foreign travel passports to go to Thailand,” the officer said. He pointed out that visas will be issued in Thai airports and their validity period will not exceed 30 days. But Thai customs officers retain their right to reduce the validity period without explanation of reasons. “In any case a visa issued upon arrival cannot be prolonged. To get a visa for a longer term it is necessary to apply to the consulate as before,” the officer said. Earlier, it was also possible to get the Thai visa upon arrival, but it took 4-5 hours to fill in an application form and undergo other formalities. The agreement on easier visa rules was signed by the two countries’ foreign ministers at the Russia-ASEAN summit in Kuala-Lumpur on December 13, 2005. According to statistics, the number of Russian tourists in Thailand continues to grow. Last year, 200,000 Russians visited this country.
