New international terminal of Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport received its first plane on Monday
It was a plane of Lithuanian Airlines that arrived in Moscow from Vilnius at 08:53 Moscow time. It took around 12 months to build a four-storey modern building with a 1,000-place parking area. “The new terminal is able to service up to 1,500 passengers per hour. Its annual throughput is estimated at five million people,” the C terminal’ s director-general, Mikhail Vasilenko, told journalists. He pointed out that in the near future Sheremetyevo-1 and Sheremetyevo-2 will be renamed into A and B respectively. At present, the C terminal will receive all international flights from Sheremetyevo-1. “In the future, we hope to attract new air companies here,” Vasilenko said. The terminal’s inauguration will take place in April. During the first day of its work the terminal will service 11 flights from Kiev, Simferopol, Vilnius, Astana, Dnepropetrovsk, Almaty and Algiers.
