The Russian-Thai agreement on simplified visa rules will come into force on March 24
The Russian-Thai agreement on simplified visa rules will come into force on March 24, a Russian Foreign Ministry official said on Tuesday. The agreement on easier visa rules was signed by the two countries’ foreign ministers at the Russia-ASEAN summit in Kuala-Lumpur on December 13, 2005. The document "aims to liberalize the regime of mutual trips by citizens of the two countries, expand and strengthen the legal and contractual basis of bilateral relations, and create favorable conditions for the development and deepening of contacts between citizens of the two countries," the diplomat said. "The key point of the agreement is the introduction of visaless regime of trips for up to 30 days for holders of valid foreign travel passports. The agreement on dropping visa formalities for holders of diplomatic and service passports has been in effect since 2003. This move by the two states "has an important symbolic significance in connection with the celebration this summer of the 110th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Thailand," he underlined. Last year, 200,000 Russians visited Thailand
