Vladimir Putin, Konstantinos Karamanlis and Sergei Stanishev met in Athens over dinner late on Wednesday
Russian President Vladimir Putin, Greek Prime Minister Konstantinos Karamanlis and Bulgarian Premier Sergei Stanishev met in Athens over dinner late on Wednesday. They discussed the implementation of a project for the construction of the Burgas-Aleksandropoulis oil pipeline, the Kyoto protocol and several international problems. “For more than 90 minutes the president of Russia and the prime ministers of Greece and Bulgaria discussed the implementation of the Burgas-Aleksandropoulis oil pipeline project,” the Kremlin press secretary Alexei Gromov told reporters. Special attention was paid to the observation of ecological standards. Other topics for discussion included the Kyoto protocol and the new EU initiative on additional efforts to restrict harmful gas emissions into the atmosphere and increase renewable sources of energy, Gromov went on to say. He added the sides touched upon international issues, primarily the Kosovo problem. The dinner passed in the Dionisos restaurant named after Dionis, the legendary God of Wine. The restaurant is located in front of the Holy Mount Akropolis. Its visitors include prominent Greek politicians. They enjoy a magnificent view of the Parthenon and other antique structures of the Akropolis. Ancient architects built them about 2,500 years ago. The Dionisos restaurant renowned for its excellent cuisine has been treating its customers for 40 years. Its halls are decorated in classical style and are located in terraces. Enormous windows open a panoramic view of the Akropolis which is romantically illuminated by numerous searchlights. The menu includes the most popular dishes of the traditional Greek and European cuisine. The guests are offered fresh fish, grilled meat and original appetizers. The wine list abounds in a wide selection of wines. This justifies the restaurant’s divine name.
