The first meeting of the Coordinating Council of Russian compatriots living abroad is opening in the Russian capital on Monday
The first meeting of the Coordinating Council of Russian compatriots living abroad is opening in the Russian capital on Monday, the Russian Foreign Ministry told Itar-Tass. “The meeting agenda includes consideration of a complex of measures aimed at the support of compatriots, expansion of their relations with Russia, strengthening of the Russian language positions abroad, as well as the protection of legal rights and interests of the Russian Diaspora.” The Coordinating Council representatives’ meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, their visits to the Russian State Duma lower house of parliament and Russian Public Council, as well as to a number of ministries are planned. The ministry officials recalled that the Council had been established during the World Congress of Compatriots in October 2006 as “a coordinating body representing the interests of Russian and foreign compatriots, maintaining a permanent dialogue with the Russian authorities, the government commission for the affairs of compatriots abroad and non-governmental organisations of Russia and foreign states.” The Coordinating Council meeting participants will end their work on March 21.
