The Russian Emergencies Ministry confirmed the death of 75 people in the Ulyanovskaya coalmine accident in the Kemerovo region. “Sixty-one people died at the Ulyanovskaya coalmine as a result of a methane explosion,” Emergencies Ministry spokeswoman Veronika Smolskaya told Itar-Tass. Emergencies Minister Sergei Shoigu has flown to the Kemerovo region. “The Emergencies Ministry’s plane, with Sergei Shoigu and a ministerial task force group abroad, departed from the Ranmenskoye airfield outside Moscow at 18:00 Moscow time,” the Emergencies Ministry press service told Itar-Tass. A group of psychologists will travel to the Kemerovo region by the same plane. The ministry plans to send another plane with rescuers. “It can fly to Kemerovo after 20:00 Moscow time,” the press service said. There were 200 people in the mine when a methane explosion happened at the Ulyanovskaya coalmine in the Kemerovo region, according to the latest information, the crisis management committee, headed by regional Governor Aman Tuleyev, said. The families of the coalminers who died as a result of a methane explosion at the Ulyanovksaya coalmine in the Kemerovo region will be paid compensation, the regional administration said on Monday. Each family will be paid one million roubles, in accordance with an agreement between Governor Aman Tuleyev and the owners of the coalmine.
