Around 100,000 people died of drugs in Russia last year
Around 100,000 people died of drugs in Russia last year, the head of the federal drugs control service’s Moscow department, Viktor Khvorostian, told a youth forum examining drug problems on Wednesday. He pointed out that first of all it is necessary to stake on preventive measures in the fight against this evil. “We understand that this problem cannot be resolved only by law enforcement measures. Joint efforts of public and religious organizations are necessary. The authorities and human rights organizations should keep a close watch on the problem,” he said. “Active youth citizenship plays an important role in the uncompromising struggle against drug threat,” Khvorostian said. “At present, there are 30,000 drug addicts in Moscow alone. Most of them are young people, pupils and students,” he said. He urged to conduct awareness raising campaigns among youth, which will help reduce the number of drug abusers.
