Russia's able-bodied population may decrease 15 percent by 2020, Economic Development Minister Gherman Gref told the ministerial board meeting on Friday. The number of able-bodied people will decrease by 2.5 million people in the country in the next three years, and there will be acute shortage of workers, mainly of low-paid professions, he said. In this connection, it is necessary to switch to the innovation way of economy development, from the fuel and raw material base to fields of knowledge and high-technological production, the minister noted. The Economic Development Ministry has such tasks as human capital creation, economy diversification, development of infrastructure sectors, particularly transport and electrical energy, and improvement of the state-private partnership mechanism. Besides there is a need to create new economic development regulating centres to get rid of the economic lag of depressive regions, Gref said. The ministry will pay much attention in its work to the Pension Fund and enhancing of the defence orders fulfilment effectiveness, he noted.
