The Russian Pacific Fleet has been conducting large-scale exercises in the Sea of Japan to practice anti-submarine defense
The Russian Pacific Fleet has been conducting large-scale exercises in the Sea of Japan to practice anti-submarine defense. On Monday morning fifteen warships and auxiliary ships of the Maritime Joint Group of different class forces under command of Vice-Admiral Viktor Chirkov have gone out into the sea to fulfill individual and group tasks, chief of the press and public relations department of the Pacific Fleet Roman Martov told Tass. Under the scenario during the manoeuvres the anti-submarine ships are to locate and destroy an “enemy’s” submarine – one of the diesel-powered submarines taking part in the exercises. Planes and helicopters of the anti-submarine aircraft of the Pacific Fleet should help the warships’ crews in search for the submarine. Helicopter crews will repeatedly practice takes-off and landings on board the anti- submarine ships in daytime and at dark. Submarine crews shall in a duel situation make torpedo shots to hit the target, Martov said. Missile ships of the Joint Group will also make missile and artillery shots, Martov said.
