Viktor Yanukovich said that President Viktor Yushchenko’s decree on the dissolution of the Supreme Rada was a disaster-harboring action
Ukrainian Prime Ministry Viktor Yanukovich said in his address to the nation and parliament on Tuesday that President Viktor Yushchenko’s decree on the dissolution of the Supreme Rada was a disaster-harboring action. He said that “an attempt on the constitutional order has happened in the country”. Yushchenko’s decree is aimed at “usurpation of power, dispersal of the legitimately elected parliament”, Yanukovich said. He said that a “plainly adventurous scenario is being pursued with the aim of the return to authoritarian presidential power”. “The guarantor of the Constitution has made a step having catastrophic consequences for the country.” Yanukovich assured the Ukrainians that executive authority remained stable, and “adventurers from a so-called democratic opposition will not succeed in beating us out of the rhythm of work for good of the people”. He called on the president “to think better”, “recall his decree” and “sit at the negotiating table”.
