A delegation of the Russian Federation Council and Russian regions led by Council's Vice Speaker and head of the Russian-French friendship group Dmitry Mezentsev is visiting France to upgrade inter-regional relations. The delegates are to study methods of the local self-government and French experience in tourist, cultural, education, small and middle-sized business spheres, Mr. Mezentsev told RIA Novosti. "We are especially interested in business social responsibility and French experience of social support for needy people," the Russian senator noted. Moreover, the sides are to discuss the implementation of Russian-French regional projects and prospects for cooperation in this sphere. The delegation includes heads of Tatarstan, St. Petersburg, the Irkutsk, Kaluga, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov and Samara regions, he added. The delegates have already met with representatives of some French ministries, departments, and associations of local and regional authorities and businessmen, Dmitry Mezentsev said. They are scheduled to meet with Senate President Christian Poncelet and Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin. On Thursday and Friday the delegation will visit Champagne-Ardenne and Aquitaine.
