Kemerovo governor Aman Tuleyev did not turn up at the Novosibirsk regional court on Thursday
Kemerovo governor Aman Tuleyev did not turn up at the Novosibirsk regional court on Thursday, for questioning as injured party in the criminal case over the failed assassination attempt on his life. "No reasons were given," court officials told Itar-Tass, adding that the governor will be summoned again. The defendant is four times Olympic champion Alexander Tikhonov. He stands accused of incitement to murder of Kemerovo regional governor Aman Tuleyev. If proven guilty, he may face up to ten years in jail. Tikhonov is on recognizance. The criminal case against the famous bi-athlete was referred to court late last year. According to investigators, the chief of the MIKOM company, Mikhail Zhivilo, "ordered" the murder of the Kemerovo region's governor Aman Tuleyev because the latter had allegedly edged out Zhivilo's company from the regional economy. The businessman asked his friend Tikhonov to arrange a contract hit. Tikhonov, in turn, asked his brother Viktor Tikhonov, who lives in Novosibirsk, to hire killers. Viktor Tikhonov found perpetrators and paid to them 180,000 dollars advance. However, they reported the matter to the Federal Security Service. In 2002, the Novosibirsk regional court sentenced Alexander Tikhonov's brother to four years in prison. Alexander Tikhonov and the MIKOM chief were staying abroad at the time, so a separate criminal case against them was opened. Zhivilo is on the wanted list. Tuleyev repeatedly stated he bore no grudge against Alexander Tikhonov and called upon the prosecutors to drop criminal proceedings. During the trial of Viktor Tikhonov, the court repeatedly summoned the governor for questioning, but he never turned up, saying he was too busy.
