The Russian Emergencies Ministry has warned about possible emergencies in connection with the floods in the Tomsk and Sverdlovsk Regions
The disaster prevention centre has issued a flood warning on Wednesday for the regions. The Ob River will continue to go up in the area of Molchanovo in the Tomsk Region from April 25 to 27. The flood may inundate lower areas where the residential areas of Molchanovo, Igrekovo and Fyodorovka are located, and local roads may be also flooded. The water approached the critical level near Molchanovo on Wednesday. In the Sverdlovsk Region, floods may damage river bank constructions and inundate residential areas, roads and bridges on April 25-26. Most rivers in the Sverdlovsk Region are expected to go up on Wednesday and Thursday, and rains may add to the floods. The situation may deteriorate in the region in the next few days, the ministry warns. Flood prevention measures are taken in most Russian regions at present. According to the Emergencies Ministry, a total of 24 houses in which 108 people reside are inundated in three residential areas in Bashkiria and the Orenburg and Tyumen Regions. Twenty six people from the flooded areas have moved to their relatives' homes for the period.
