Young picketers who gathered outside the Estonian embassy in Moscow on Friday barred the way to a car of the Estonian ambassador
Young picketers who gathered outside the Estonian embassy in Moscow on Friday barred the way to a car of the Estonian ambassador. Around 03.00 p.m. the ambassador’s car left the territory of the Estonian embassy, but it was immediately blocked by dozens of picketers who represented Russia’s youth movements. The pickets held up the car for around half an hour, demanding that the ambassador get out and give explanations about the demolition of the monument to the Soldier-Liberator in Tallinn. Finally, the picketers forced the car back into the embassy's territory. Around 20 servicemen of Moscow riot police arrived in Kalashnikov Pereulok Street and forced the picketers away onto the sidewalk to clear the way for traffic in the area. Activists of the Young Guards, Nashi youth movements and the Youth Wing of LDPR party continue the picket outside the Estonian embassy from Friday morning. They denounced as blasphemous the demolition of the monument to the Soldier-Liberator in Tallinn on the eve of VE-Day, declaring it was an insult to the memory of the Soviet soldiers who had died for liberation of the world from fascism, Chief of the Moscow Guards Youth Movement Alexei Shaposhnikov told Tass. LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky accompanied by his fellow party members arrived on the scene where the picket was held. The picket is continuing. All the doors to the Estonian embassy are closed. Even people who came to collect their visas are not admitted. The embassy personnel said the embassy would not open its doors until the picketers go away. The picketers declared they would stay on until late and prevent the Estonian ambassador from leaving the residence.
