No amendments to Russia’s current army building policies extending till 2010 are on the agenda
No amendments to Russia’s current army building policies extending till 2010 are on the agenda, the chief of the General Staff, General of the Army Yuri Baluyevsky, told the media on Monday. Asked if one should expect some changes to army building priorities in the wake of the appointment of a new defense minister, Baluyevsky said “our army building plans for the period till 2010 were authorized by the president and are being acted on and no adjustments are due.” The chief of the General Staff believes it would be very wrong to change plans in the process of their implementation. “If we started building a house with its roof, we would get nothing good in the end,” he said. At the same time Baluyevsky did not rule out that “drastic changes in the world might influence the plan after all and require its certain corrections.” “There have been no such changes so far,” he said.
