Russian President Vladimir Putin laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Aleksandrovsky Garden near the Kremlin walls on Tuesday
The spruce wreath was decorated with white callas and red roses and interwoven with a ribbon of colors of the Russian flag with the inscription “To the Unknown Soldier from Russian President”. After soldiers of a guard of honor placed the wreath in front of the Eternal Flame, Vladimir Putin adjusted the ribbon and bowed his head as a token of memory of those who died in the years of the Great Patriotic War. After the ceremony, the presidential band played the Russian anthem. The guard of honor of the Kremlin commandant’s regiment, soldiers of the land, air and naval forces, and cadets of military colleges marched past the Eternal Flame. Laying the wreath, Vladimir Putin talked to veterans for several minutes. Then the head of state went along the Kremlin wall where the memorial tombs with hero-cities names are installed. The president laid flowers to each of them. Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov, First Deputy Prime Ministers Sergei Ivanov and Dmitry Medvedev, parliament leaders Sergei Mironov and Boris Gryzlov, chiefs of parliamentary factions, federal ministers, military leaders and war veterans attended the ceremony. They added to the presidential wreath tens of red carnations.
