No casualties were reported as a result of the flood in the Russian Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the Far Eastern regional emergencies center said on Tuesday, refuting some media reports about alleged fatalities, flooded houses and bridges. Meanwhile, the press service of the Yakutia main emergencies department said before the flood in the republic four people died for various reasons, but these accidents have no relation to the current flood situation. The Far Eastern regional emergencies center reported 162 houses are flooded in three settlements – Churapcha, Berdigesty and Yert so far. In most cases the yards were flooded, in some buildings the water reached the floor level. As many as 593 people happened to be in the flood area. The Yakutsk authorities said the Lena River level near the city reached 858 centimeters by Tuesday morning that is 70 centimeters higher than the critical level. The headquarters for emergency situations began its meeting to analyze the flood situation in detail. Fifteen temporary residence camps were set up in Yakutia, 52 people were evacuated in the camps, another 495 people moved to relatives and acquaintances. As many as 110 heads of cattle were brought to safe places from the flood area. As many as 837 people and 108 pieces of machinery are involved in the emergency rescue operation in Yakutia. Sappers are blasting ice floes.
