More than one thousand people were so far evacuated from the flooded areas of Yakutia. The biggest number of people was evacuated from the village of Berdigestyakh, which is in the highland part of the republic. As many as eighty-nine dwelling houses were inundated there and 636 people, including 283 children, had to be moved to evacuation camps or to the homes of their relatives. A total number of 223 head of large-horn cattle and horses were herded from the village to some safer places. The press service of the main emergency department of Yakutia reports that the Darkylakh neighbourhood of the city of Yakutsk was also flooded and 137 dwelling houses are now overflowed with water. At Tuesday, 4.00 local time, the overflowed Lena River began to food the river port and the adjoining territory. A huge ice floe got stuck across the river near the inhabited locality of Yedeitsy (Nask District), jamming the river. Experts of the Ministry for Emergency Situations are trying to blow up the jam and to restore the normal flow of water. Flooded in different districts of Yakutia are the villages of Chuparcha (41 houses), Yert (37 houses), Abaga (39 houses), and Myandigi (8 houses). The total number of those evacuated has reached 1,118, including 456 children. More than nine hundred people and approximately two hundred different-purpose machines are now trying to cope with the consequences of the flood in Yakutia. Dams, protecting the inhabited localities from high water, are being reinforced all over the republic.
