Oil and gas production in Russia increased
Oil and gas production in Russia increased 11 percent and 3.6 percent respectively in 2003, the Energy Ministry said Tuesday. Oil output grew 41.747 million tons year-on-year to amount to 421.377 million tons in the past year with a daily average production of 8.4 million barrels. Russia's largest oil producers in the past year include Yukos with 80.7 million tons, Lukoil with 78.9 million tons and Surgutneftegaz with 54 million tons. Oil exports to countries and regions outside the Commonwealth Independent States (CIS) amounted to nearly 155 million tons last year, up 12.4 percent as against 2002, according to the ministry. The country exported over 37.5 million tons of oil to the CIS members in 2003. Russia produced 616.45 billion cubic meters of gas last year, or 21.15 billion cubic meters more than that of 2002, statistics from the ministry show. During the period, the Gazprom joint venture produced 540.17 billion cubic meters, up 3.1 percent year-on-year.
