Beslan holds a mourning action ‘1000 days without children’ to remember victims of the school siege on September 1, 2004
The action is organized by the non-governmental organization The Mothers of Beslan. Candles were lit all night at the remains of Beslan school No. 1 and at a memorial cemetery. “We want to show by this action that children, who died in the school’ s gym and were killed by terrorists are not forgotten. We want to remind everybody of this awful tragedy and say that this should never happen again,” organizers said. “We asked all citizens of the republic (North Ossetia) to light candles in their windows to remember our children,” they said. Terrorists took hostage 1,200 people in the Beslan school siege on September 1-3, which claimed lives of 330 people.
