U.S. President George W. Bush will welcome Russian President Vladimir Putin at the residents of his father in Kennebunkport, Maine, on July 1-2, White House spokesman Tony Snow told the morning press gaggle on Wednesday. “President Bush will welcome Russian President Vladimir Putin to former President George H. W. Bush's home in Kennebunkport, Maine on July 1 and 2, 2007. The President looks forward to the visit as part of the intensive bilateral dialogue with President Putin. Cooperation between the United States and Russia is important in solving regional conflicts, stopping the spread of weapons of mass destruction, and combating terrorism and extremism. The Presidents will discuss a wide range of issues, including Iran, civil nuclear cooperation, and missile defence,” he said. The Kremlin press service also confirmed that said Putin and Bush would meet at the G8 summit in Germany and then in the United States on July 1-2. Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who are attending a ministerial meeting in Potsdam, discussed the preparation of the U.S.-Russian summit. “The sides discussed issues of the bilateral and international agenda, primarily in the context of preparations for the upcoming meetings between the presidents of Russia and the U.S.,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
