Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of Greece Carolos Papoulias are pleased with their talks
Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of Greece Carolos Papoulias are pleased with their talks. The Russian head of state, at the press conference, noted “the traditionally friendly and trustful attitude that has always marked relations between our countries,” while his Greek counterpart stressed that these relations are at their peak. “The Russian-Greek dialogue, just as at all times, develops dynamically, and relations between the two countries are stable and have considerable prospects,” the Russian leader holds. Putin mentioned tourism among the most promising areas. “It can be said this trend holds out much promise, as over 250,000 Russian tourists visit Greece every year, and the number of tourists is constantly rising,” Putin said. He believes, “The sphere of interaction between Russia and Greece is much wider than the political and economic areas.” He also pointed to “permanent contacts of the Russian and Greek Orthodox Churches.” “Their dialogue has an undoubted beneficial effect on relations between the two countries,” he said. Putin said the talks dealt also with “topical international problems” without specifying which problems. This was done by Carolos Papoulias: “Russia’s relations with the EU, with NATO, the Middle East, the Kosovo problem, the Cyprus problem, when part of a sovereign state was subjected to military occupation.” “We witness the best period in our relations,” the Greek president holds. He said he is particularly satisfied with cooperation in the military-technical area which develops very well.” “This will be reflected in the joint communique of two ministers,” Papoulias said.
