An area of over 180 million square meters in the Khabarovsk Territory, in the Russian Far East, is being swept by 22 forest fires, a local emergencies ministry spokesman said Friday. Over 200 firefighters, 50 vehicles and nine aircraft are involved in efforts to stamp out the fires. The territory has already reported 179 forest fires since the fire hazardous season set in.
