Moscow court passed guilty verdicts for two directors of construction companies
A Moscow court passed guilty verdicts for two directors of construction companies, who had cheated co-investors out of their money and gone into hiding. The Tverskoi court gave a three-year suspended sentence to director general of the Masterok firm Yu. Zaichuk, found guilty of misappropriating money of eight investors. In addition, he was accused of trying to come in possession of two apartments in a prestigious district in central Moscow. Investigators ascertained that he had tried to sell the same apartments several times. The defendant pleaded guilty and the court gave him a suspended sentence. But head of the Alternative Mortgage company M. Fyodorova, who was on the federal wanted list for a long time, has been sentenced to seven years in jail. She was detained in St. Petersburg in late 2006, and charged with grand fraud and money laundering. Investigators said Fyodorova had collected some 15 million roubles from more than 30 citizens in housing construction. She, too, pleaded guilty. Chairman of the Stolichny Novosel construction cooperative Nikolai Besorabov and Concern Rosagrostroiinvest director general Leonid Sedov have been charged in absentia in Moscow's northeastern district. Some 60 cheated investors cases have been investigated in the Russian capital since the beginning of this year.
