The Russian Emergencies Ministry warned about a very high fire hazard in the forests in Volgograd and Rostov regions
The Russian Emergencies Ministry warned about a very high fire hazard in the forests in Volgograd and Rostov regions. “A high fire hazard will persist in most districts of the Volgograd region, as well as in northern, central and south-eastern districts of the Rostov region in the next few days,” a spokesman for the information department in the Emergencies Ministry told Itar-Tass on Wednesday. In these regions the number of spots of fire and wildfire areas are expected to grow. It is not ruled out that the fire may spread on settlements, power and communications lines, as well as a heavy fumigation of federal and local highways is also probable. The emergencies center “Antistikhiya” issued a relevant warning on Wednesday. According to the Emergencies Ministry, 106 fires totaling about 55,000 hectares were registered in Russian forests on Wednesday. The most difficult fire situation emerged in Chita and Amur regions, as well as in the Khabarovsk Territory. “More than 6.4 thousand fires totaling about 440,000 hectares have emerged since the beginning of the fire-prone season,” the ministry said.
