District police chief and a police officer who accompanied him were killed by an explosion in Dagestan
A district police chief and a police officer who accompanied him were killed by an explosion in Dagestan. The Untsukulsky district police chief, Colonel Magomedali Aliyev, and lieutenant Shamil Gasanov died on the spot. The explosive device was placed in electric system equipment on the third floor in the five-story building where Aliyev lived. The bomb went off when Aliyev went out of his flat and together with Gasanov went downstairs from the fourth floor, Dagestani Interior Ministry press service head Anzhela Martirosova told Itar-Tass. Aliyev and Gasanov died of heavy wounds at the site. Experts and a joint group of investigators from the Interior Ministry, the Federal Security Service's regional department and the prosecutor's office work at the site. Former Untsukulsky district police chief Gadzhimurad Azizov died in October 2005 in a special operation against a group of gunmen near a tunnel gunmen planned to blow up. Police sources link the murder of Aliyev with his activities against crime, including his uncompromising fight against underground groups of gunmen still operating in the district.
