Russian T-90 for India
The first T-90 tank "Bhishma" will roll out of the assembly line of Heavy Vehicles Factory in Avadi, Tamil Nadu, tomorrow with Minister of State for Defence Production and Supplies O Rajagopal handing it over to Army Chief Gen N C Vij. The highly versatile and state-of-the-art battle tank will meet the needs of the Indian army in the coming decades. The important features of this tank are its mobility, lethal firepower, surprise-hit at the first sight and self-protection. An upgraded 1000 horsepower engine for enhanced mobility, ballistic computers for sight and accuracy and capability to fire all types of ammunitions including guided missiles ranks "Bhishma" among the best in the world, a Defence Ministry release said today. The night vision device and thermal imaging system fitted on the tank are the latest in the world and it has superior armour protection with an explosive reactor armour panel and nuclear, biological and chemical weapons. At present there are about 80 T-90S tanks in the assembly line in semi-knocked condition, which will be put together under technical guidance from Russia, the release said here.
