Five-time European cycling champion Yulia Arustamova committed suicide and prosecutors are investigating the circumstances
Five-time European cycling champion Yulia Arustamova committed suicide and prosecutors are investigating the circumstances. Arustamova hanged herself in the bathroom of her Moscow apartment, police told Tass on Thursday, specifying it was her psychologist and boyfriend Rudolf Zagainov who found the body. Arustamova, 24, specialized in track cycling and was specifically good in scratch. She was many-times Russian and European champion and won the bronze in scratch of the 2006-2007 World Cup. Zagainov found the girl hanging on the belt of her bathrobe on a towel hook. Police quoted Zagainov as saying Yulia returned several hours before the death from training. She was very upset and complained that “everything was going wrong in her life”. Zagainov went shopping. He returned two hours later and found Arustamova hanged. She was still alive and he took her to the bed to make artificial respiration. He called a neighbor for help. But the girl died before an ambulance arrived. President of the Russian Cycling Federation Alexander Gusyatnikov said he was shocked when he learned the news. “Yulia was a very talented sportswoman, she was in the Russian national team at all major competitions and gave a lot of hope. Last year she joined the team at the world cup of highway cycling and I think she performed excellently. I am shocked not less than you are,” he was quoted as saying by All Sport agency.
