The State Duma lower house of Russia’s parliament intends to consider about 100 draft laws before the end of the current spring session
The State Duma lower house of Russia’s parliament intends to consider about 100 draft laws before the end of the current spring session, speaker of the lower house Boris Gryzlov told journalists on Tuesday. He specified that the lawmakers made a decision to hold an additional plenary session on July 5. Thus, the deputies intend to hold three plenary meetings during the last week of their legislative work - on July 4, 5 and 6. The speaker also pointed out that within the framework of the spring session the parliamentarians “fulfilled the year’s norm” passing over 200 bills. Gryzlov explained such records in the lawmaking by the State Duma’s prompt reaction to the Russian presidential state-of-the-nation address to the Federal Assembly. Among important bills that the lower house is to pass in the last days of the session Gryzlov named the adoption of the national three-year budget, draft laws on increasing grants, on the creation of the housing and public utilities fund, amendments to the law on education introducing an obligatory intermediate degree of education, as well as norms toughening punishment for the violation of traffic rules and stepping up the fight against extremism.
