The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry has sent a helicopter to Greece to help the country extinguish forest fires. “A fire-fighting helicopter Mi-26 took off from the Ramenskoye airfield outside Moscow early on Wednesday to Greece on instruction of the Russian government,” the information department of the emergencies ministry told Itar-Tass. The helicopter will take part in efforts to extinguish forest fires in the island and mainland parts of Greece. The helicopter will be based at the Elefsina airbase in an Athens suburb.
