Sergei Lavrov will pay a routine visit to France on July 16
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will pay a routine visit to France on July 16 on an invitation from his French counterpart Michel Barnier, the Russian Foreign Ministry's press and information department told RIA Novosti on Tuesday. The visit will focus on key international and bilateral issues. "The Russian Foreign Minister will meet with French President Jacques Chirac," the Foreign Ministry reported. The forthcoming session of the Russian-French bilateral cooperation commission at the level of Prime Ministers and the work of the economic, financial, industrial and trade cooperation council will be the highlight of the bilateral talks, Russian Foreign Ministry official spokesman Alexander Yakovenko told RIA Novosti. According to him, the situation in Iraq and Mideastern settlement will be on the international agenda. Russia and France share common positions on Iraq and come out for its absolute sovereignty and the UN real role in this conflict, which meets its charter and potential. At issue will be Russia-EU cooperation, in particular, the monitoring of the implementation of decisions made at the Russia-EU summit in Moscow and aimed to solve problems connected with the EU expansion, the official spokesman stressed. The 4th session of the security cooperation council involving Russian and French foreign and defense ministers will be held in Moscow this fall.
