Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas arrives to Russia Sunday on a three-day visit
Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas arrives in Moscow Sunday on a three-day visit, a Palestinian Embassy spokesman said Thursday. Initially planned for June 19-21, the visit to Russia, which is one of the mediators in the Middle East peace process, was postponed indefinitely after hostilities between the radical Islamist group Hamas and the more moderate Abbas-led Fatah resulted in the former's seizure of power in Gaza, effectively splitting the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) in two. The Fatah-controlled West Bank has received recognition and financial help from Western countries, while Gaza has been isolated and boycotted.
