Chief of Russia’s General Staff Yuri Baluyevsky denied reports saying the S-400 Triumph air defence missile battalions would come on combat alert duty with an old missile
Chief of Russia’s General Staff Yuri Baluyevsky denied reports saying the S-400 Triumph air defence missile battalions would come on combat alert duty with an old missile. “I don’t know where this wrong information comes from. I consider it the sheer stupidity. The S-400 systems will be equipped with an absolutely new extended range missile,” Baluyevsky stressed. In his words, several dozens of the S-400 Triumph missile systems will come to combat alert duty in Russia till 2015. “They will defend the country’s state border along its perimeter, ensure its security and prevent attacks from deep space,” the Russian general said. Baluyevsky arrived in Urumqi, China’s province of Xingiang Uigur, on Wednesday to take part in the military-political consultations of member-countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). Aide of the Russian military attache to China, Alexei Talypin, told Itar-Tass, “The main purpose of General Baluyevsky’s visit to China is to take part in the military-political consultations of the chiefs of staff of SCO member-countries.” “The consultations will focus on regional security and prospects for SCO military-political cooperation,” Talypin explained. In his words, the military-political consultations will open the SCO Peace Mission-2007 exercise. “These consultations will be the main contents of the first stage of the manoeuvres on China’s territory,” the aide said. General Baluyevsky will take part in a reception, which is being organised on behalf of chief of China’s People’s Liberation Army Colonel-General Liang Guanglie. “The reception will involve the chiefs of General Staff of SCO Armed Forces,” the aide added.
