Russia cannot destroy chemical weapons from other countries at its territory
Russia cannot destroy chemical weapons from other countries at its territory, the head of the federal department for safe storage and destruction of chemical weapons, Lieutenant-General Valery Kapashin told Itar-Tass on Thursday. The Chemical Weapons Convention that entered into force on April 29, 1997, bans transportation of chemical weapons, he said. “Russia also has the effective law that prohibits transportation, not to mention a ban on receiving chemical agents from abroad for scrapping,” he said. Kapashin denied as untrue the information that Russia began works to recover chemical weapons from seabed. “There is no talk about this. It is nothing, but a legend,” he said.
