Sakhalin Region's vice-governors tendered resignation on Friday in accordance with the regulations after a new governor took office
The Sakhalin Region's vice-governors tendered resignation on Friday in accordance with the regulations after a new governor took office. Five vice-governors have handed in resignation, and one who is on holiday will submit resignation after returning to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. The new governor, Alexander Khoroshavin, will decide whether to accept the resignation. Khoroshavin took office on Thursday. The Russian president removed former governor Ivan Malakhov from the post. Many link it with Malakhov's late reaction to the quake in Nevelsk. He arrived in Nevelsk, which is 90 kilometres from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, only the next day after the quake. Khoroshavin arrived there in first hours of his work as governor. All the vice-governors who handed in resignation on Friday have been dealing with Nevelsk problems since August 2. About 100 buildings must be razed in the city, and 64,000 square metres of new housing must be built for residents who lost their flats.
