Two militants were detained in Chechnya. One of them is suspected of firing on a motor convoy of the Russian Defence Ministry in 2005. As a result of the attack, five servicemen died. As head of the press centre of the Operational Headquarters of the Interior Ministry in Chechnya Dmitry Nikiforov told ITAR-TASS on Monday, “the participation of 25-year-old Israpil in shooting at the motor convoy was established during an investigation of other case - - a case of illegal keeping of arms and ammunition.” In the Gudermes region, as the head of the press centre went on to say, police officers detained a 26-year-old local resident while conducting a search operation in a house in Sovetskaya Street. He is suspected of being a gang member. During his detention, the gunman tried to set off a homemade explosive device. “There are no victims among police officers,” Nikiforov said. He also said that officers of the Interior Ministry and the Federal Security Service found a cache in the basement of a ruined house. The cache contained six grenade launchers and 18 projectiles to it, two submachine-guns, seven grenades and a big amount of cartridges and fuses. “According to the available information, this cache belonged to so-called emir of the Zavadsky region Yunus Akhmadov destroyed in July this year,” the press centre head said. Another cache was found near the village of Komsomolskoye of the Gudermes region. The cache contained three mines, four grenades, two homemade explosive devices, 300 grams of ammonium, about 600 cartridges, ten homemade fuses, as well as a manual for assembling explosive devices. Investigation is underway.
