Wildfires continue near Russia’s Black Sea resort city of Gelendzhik
Wildfires continue near Russia’s Black Sea resort city of Gelendzhik, renowned for its relic pine trees. “According to preliminary data, the area of fires has reached 60 hectares,” sources from the city department for civil defence and emergency situations told Tass on Monday. The first fires were fixed on Sunday in the forest near four local settlements, an officer on duty said. The fires near the settlements of Temnaya Shchel and Sosnovaya Shchel were fully put out by Monday morning. A total of 56 hectares of woodland were destroyed by the blaze. Negligence in handling fire in the forest was the reason behind the blaze, department officials believe.
