Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Belgorod
Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Belgorod, a city in Russia close to the border with Ukraine, from Chuvashia. He will preside over a meeting of the Council for priority national projects and demographic policy at the Belgorod State University and will have a chance to see how they are being implemented. The meeting will be attended by the acting first vice-premier Dmitry Medvedev, the presidential envoy in the Central Federal District Georgy Poltavchenko, the Governor of the Belgorod region Yevgeny Savchenko and the representative of the Belgorod regional Duma Anatoly Zelikov. Putin visited Belgorod in May 2000 shortly after being elected for his first presidential term. He met the then Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in the run-up to the Victory Day celebrations. He also held a conference on developing the agro-industrial sector in Belgorod. Prior to launching discussions on housing, agriculture, education and public health, Putin will visit the Belgorod dairy farm and the "Tavrovo" district where individual houses are built. He will visit a young family who built a house on the funds provided under a national project. Putin will visit a personal household in the village of Yakovlevo and the Zhdanov farm. The president will be shown an exhibition of scientific developments at the local university. Putin will end his day at the BelGu sport center where famous Russian gymnastics champion Svetlana Khorkina trained.
